Here are some ideas of how I can support men with their mental health. Men are less likely to notice the signs of mental illness, which can include:

  • Feeling sad
  • Excessive worrying
  • Extreme moods, both high and low
  • Withdrawal from activities
  • Not getting pleasure from anything
  • Trouble sleeping

If you are suffering from any of the above and would like to talk, I am able to offer a confidential space to explore how you feel. Everything you share will remain between you and me unless I have to break confidentially within British law.

How I can support men with their mental health

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

I will listen to you and not offer advice but collaborate with you to work out what is currently causing you disturbance. We will look at the impact of this on your daily life. By using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), we will look at your thoughts and feelings about the situation. Quite often it is our thoughts and feelings rather than the situation itself that is causing the problem. Sometimes you struggle to see how you behave or react in a certain situation. You have always done it this way, so why would you react differently?

I will not judge what you say, as we are all unique and deal with things differently, even if faced with the same situation. I will try to understand things from your perspective and how these things are currently affecting you.

After looking at your thoughts and feelings, we will look for tools that will help you deal with things differently. It is about unlearning bad behaviour and re-learning new behaviour, which will help you manage situations in a more positive way.

We will work at your pace and you can talk about the things that you feel comfortable talking about. At no point will I make you talk about things that make you feel uncomfortable.

Sharing your problem

A problem shared is indeed a problem halved. I believe we should all take time to focus on ourselves and affirm that we are living our lives in a balanced way. Being self-aware gives us the opportunity to address issues before they manifest into something bigger.

All this can take place either in person in my counselling room or by telephone or video. There are also options for walking and talking therapy.
