Support your employee’s return to work. Everyone is struggling to know what to do at the moment regarding returning to work. Employers are not sure if they should ask their staff to return to the office and employees are not sure if it is safe to return to the office. Lockdown has proved to be a very different experience for everyone.
Some people have worked from home all the way through. Other than a location change and the lack of face to face contact with colleagues, nothing significant has changed. Some people have been on furlough and have not worked at all. Others have worked from home and learnt how to home school their children and balance their workload as well.
As you can see, the thought of returning to work is creating different challenges for different people.
In order to get the best results for the company and the staff, employers and employees need to be able to have an open and frank conversation about how they feel about returning to work. Employees do not always feel able, to be honest with their employers about how they feel for fear of losing their jobs.
What is an Employee Assistance Programme
This is where an Employee Assitance Programme (EAP) can help. An EAP is a confidential service, where employees can share personal or work-related issues, which can be impacting on their mental or physical health or even their performance at work.
Offering an EAP will make employees feel valued and will support your employee’s return to work. It will also ensure your employees are in the best place possible with their physical and mental health. EAP can also help prevent non-work related issues spilling over into the workplace. If your employees are feeling good, this will increase productivity and ultimately the success of the business.
Counselling can be offered face to face, via the telephone, or video sessions.
In 2018/19 12.8 million working days were lost to stress, depression, and anxiety according to Health and Safety Executive https://www.hse.gov.uk/statistics/overall/hssh1819.pdf
